Cloud Compute

A Cloud Compute instance at Vultr is a VPS (Virtual Private Server) with shared CPU. A VPS is a virtual machine (VM) running on a physical server, which uses hypervisor software (such as KVM) to divide CPU, RAM resource and disk space, so as to run many instances of VPS. This is the most common entry-level server among hosting companies.

How To Create and Manage a Server Instance on Vultr

In the Vultr admin dashboard, you can deploy a new server by clicking the big blue plus button.

Then you need to choose the server type you want to use. Cloud Compute is the default.

Next, you can choose the server location and a Linux distribution. You also have the option to install pre-configured web applications with the OS, upload your custom ISO image, or restore a snapshot.

After that, you can configure additional features like enable IPv6, enable auto backup and private networking.

If you have a startup script or SSH key, you can add it to your server. If you don’t have them, then simply leave them empty.

Finally, give your server a hostname and a label, and click the Deploy Now button.

How to Log Into Your Server via SSH

Once your server is running, you can log into your server via the SSH protocol. In the overview tab of your server instance, you can see the IP address, username and password for login.

If you are using Linux or MacOS on your computer, then simply open up a terminal window and run the following command to log into your server. Replace 12.34.56.78 with your server’s IP address.

ssh [email protected]

You will be asked to enter the password.
